NBC Award 2016 honours “Choreographer with a Heart” award to Sandip Soparrkar 

Every year the prestigious NBC awards are conferred upon a number of people for their incredible contribution in the field of entertainment, art, social work, politics, science, spirituality and more. The person who is given this honour always needs to have a strong base and underline of social work or social service in their field of work.

The award ceremony each year is head in a grand way at Hilton Hotel, Mumbai, but this the organisation decided to do away all the glitz and the glamour and hosted the award show in a very low key manner. This was done not to save on their budgets but the purpose was to donate the entire amount allocated for the award show to 10-15 select families of farmers of Maharashtra who had committed suicide due to the recent drought situation.

Each awardee was called on stage and was made to give away the donation to the needy farmers wives or their surviving family. The two lifetime achievement awards was conferred upon the founder director of Nalanda Institute, the legendary classical dancer Padma Bhushan Dr Kanak Rele and to the first Super Model of India Ms. Anna Bragmyaer.

Bollywood ace choreographer Sandip Soparrkar was awarded the “Choreographer with a Heart” award not only for his contribution in the field of Ballroom dancing but also for all the social work he does through this dance workshops and dance plays. The Jury member of the NBC award recognised the hero inside the dance maestro who always contributes towards our society in every sphere. The dance Guru always supports underprivileged people be it visually, physically or mentally impaired, animal right, orphans or more. He and his students often do shows and workshops to empower and support different causes.

Speaking in the occasion Sandip Soparrkar said, “I have been attending the NBC awards ceremony as a guest for over 4 years now, it was my dream to hold this beautiful black lady in my hands and today I feel humbled to be receiving this honour. The black beauty in my hands feels awesome but, holding her makes me more responsible and I promise that through my art I will keep doing work to help the less privileged.”

It was an evening where the farmer’s families came and narrated the suicide incidence of their bread earner, these heartwarming stories left almost all the guests present teary eyed. Other awardees who were honoured were RJ Mallishka, singer Shibani Kashyap, skin and hair specialist Dr Rashmi Shetty, Actors Sudha Chandra, Smita Tambe, Vaibbhav Tatwawdi, designer Neeta Lulla and more.
