MURARI-The Mad Gentleman: How Birju Maharaj influenced Kiran Sharad’s bindass Mohini act
Actress and dancer Kiran Sharad, who plays a ‘bindaas’ desi girl in the upcoming comedy drama MURARI, has been able to deliver as an actress – thanks to a divine message from the leading exponent of Kathak dance in India, Birju Maharaj.
The trained Kathak dancer from Amravati has done theatre and also had an interesting stint in small screen with dance reality shows. She appeared as a lead in 2012 offbeat movie SHUDRA: THE RISING, the movie was dedicated to Baba Saheb Ambedkar.
Kiran plays ‘Mohini’ in MURARI – THE MAD GENTLEMAN and believes the role has given her a chance to improve and explore her acting skills by playing the ‘bindass’ desi belle who can go all out to get her love of life ‘Murari’ played by Sanjay Singh another theatre exponent.
Kiran, who has an undying passion for dancing, met Birju Maharaj once and the master gave her a divine message (tip) that helped her to improve as a performer. Birju Maharaj asked her to communicate with her feet (legs) – who according to the legendary dance maestro are the biggest weapon and pampering them, caring for them will make her a better artiste.
Since then Kiran regularly talks to her feet and takes proper care of them. This has resulted in her being a better actor and when she got the role of a straight forward bindass babe in MURARI – The Mad Gentleman, a character completely opposite to the reserve Kiran as a person, Birju Maharaj’s tip helped her gain confidence..
Though she didn’t get the chance to explore her dancing skills in the film but the actress is glad that the tip has helped her in giving proper justice to her role as Mohini in MURARI – The Mad Gentleman.. and thanks to the makers, producer Kishore N Patel, Sunil Patel and Jignesh Shah in giving her the opportunity to do a challenging role in this Suzad Iqbal Khan directed film.
